Education for sustainability linking to both Geography and Civics and Citizenship

Hi everyone, 3a in the coming weeks we will be integrating the learning of geography, civics and citizenship and sustainability through an inquiry-based approach to learning about Clean Up Australia Day . Integration of topics strengthens learning and helps make common connections for students (Brady & Kennedy, 2014). The learning will be focused around the following Australian Curriculum content descriptor: “Why people participate within communities and how students can actively participate and contribute” (Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority [ACARA], 2015a, ACHASSK072). Citizenship Learning in the Context of an Aspect of Australian History

Hi everyone,  this blog will discuss how 3a will be integrating the learning of History through Civics and Citizenship Education (CCE). Integration of topics is known to be more efficient when the knowledge, concepts and skills of one area can help reinforce ideas of another area (Brady & Kennedy, 2014). In relation to our learning, the history involved is reinforcing CCE. Through the selected tasks, students will meet a range of curriculum outcomes, learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, a Cross-Curriculum Priority and meet General Capabilities such as the Critical and Creative Thinking Strand ((Australian, Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA], 2015).
